A few words about Port
Not a varietal as such, Port is a type of fortified wine, formerly produced in Portugal. Port in South Africa is produced mostly in the Calitzdorp area, where sun and heat are perfect for the grapes, usually Tinto, Tempranillo, Touriga, though other varietals can also be used. It is typically a sweet, red wine, often served as a dessert wine, and comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties.
In South Africa, you will mostly find Tawny, Ruby, Old Port, and Late Bottle Vintage (LBV) style ports.
